Megan's Law: The Sex Offender Registration Requirement

Pennsylvania's version of Megan's Law requires anyone who has been convicted, pleaded guilty or adjudicated delinquent of certain sex crimes to register as a sex offender and become part of a state database. Offenders are placed in different tiers, depending on the offense.

  • Tier one: Police are notified of your status and you must notify them 10 days before moving to a new address. You must provide your name, address, birth date, type of vehicle and employment information.
  • Tier two: police and schools are notified of your status; any other groups that request notification will receive it; must notify authorities 10 days before relocating
  • Tier three: police, schools and neighborhoods are notified; you must check in monthly; and you must notify authorities 10 days before relocating

Our Philadelphia attorneys can help you challenge your Megan's Law assessment and tier placement. We can also help you if you have failed to update your information, failed to notify police of a relocation or failed to register at all.
