Strawbridge & Clothier building to be occupied by retail chain

A new tenant will soon occupy the first and second floors of the old Strawbridge & Clothier building in downtown Philadelphia. The former site of the iconic department store has been unoccupied since 2006, but another retail chain plans to open there in October.

City considers zoning options after Destination Maternity leaves

Philadelphia's loss of Destination Maternity Corp. headquarters has generally been viewed by city officials as a negative turn of events. The company will take its operations to South Jersey in the fall, and the move means a loss of 600 jobs in Philadelphia.

Even with commercial zoning, taco truck owner hits RCO snags

Registered Community Organizations, or RCOs, regularly have a say on zoning issues in Philadelphia communities. For example, if a person wants to open a business in a neighborhood, then the business owner is supposed to contact all of the interested RCOs, which can then support or oppose the zoning proposal at the zoning hearing.

Court declines to block convenience store

Efforts to build a Sheetz convenience store on commercial real estate at the intersection of Pennsylvania state Routes 144 and 45 moved forward after a Superior Court ruling declined to block it construction. The court upheld a prior ruling by the Court of Common Pleas that rejected efforts to bar the sale of the property for use by the store. The property is currently owned by real estate developer Bob Poole jointly with the Old Fort Road Limited Partnership.
